Paragon Ragtime Orchestra: The Gold Rush
World Premiere of the Reconstructed Score!
$15-$30
“A Chaplin Evening, Sonically Enhanced” -The Washington Post
Celebrate 100 years of film at the Majestic Theater with one of the greatest films ever made, Charlie Chaplin's The Gold Rush which, like the Majestic, debuted in 1925! This special screening of the iconic silent film is presented with live music by the critically acclaimed Paragon Ragtime Orchestra.
Before opening the Majestic in 1925, Hotel Gettysburg President wrote that he had learned that it would be “impossible to get up an orchestra at Gettysburg” which led to the installation of an organ for silent films. Though the Majestic’s organ has been lost to history, the vision of silent film with live orchestra will finally be realized.
PRO is one of the world’s foremost silent film accompanists. From Hollywood (the American Cinematheque) to Chicago (the Ravinia Festival) to New York (Lincoln Center) – PRO leads the way in designing, producing, and performing silent film programs for delighted modern audiences of all ages.
With an unparalleled career that spanned over 75 years, Charlie Chaplin considered The Gold Rush to be the work for which he most wanted to be remembered. The Gold Rush was recently described by The Wall Street Journal as “a towering monument in the medium’s history. The Gold Rush is a work of innovation.”
This event launches the Majestic Theater’s Centennial Celebration. Majestic Members at the Director level and above are invited to attend a pre-show reception at 6 pm in the Gold Patron’s Lounge to toast the launch of the Centennial season.
This performance is made possible in part by the Jeffrey Gabel Endowed Fund for Majestic Theater.
