- **Event Name**: Gettysburg's USCTs
- **Event Start and End Date**: Mon, 02 Feb, 2026 at 06:30 pm
- **Event Description**: The Emancipation Proclamation, which took effect on January 1, 1863, established the United States Colored Troops (USCT). And although it took several months to create, enlist and train these units, these measures eventually resulted in the recruitment of over 170,000 Black men, many former slaves, in the defense of the country. Over 100 of these men were born in, recruited from, or resided at one time in Adams County, Pennsylvania, with over 30 of them being buried in Gettysburg’s Lincoln Cemetery. Join Historian Timothy H. Smith as he discusses the stories of the military service of these often-overlooked local veterans of the American Civil War.

As in past winters, the program will be held in Sweney's Tavern, with the speaker starting at 6:30 p.m. Food and drinks are available, before and during the program starting at 5 p.m. Free parking is available in rear of the Farnworth House. Admission is $10 per person. Call 717-334-8838 to get your tickets today!
