Kaleb Kusmierczyk, Director of Museum Operations, will be presenting Archaeology on Seminary Ridge.

Over the course of 194 years, the campus of the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Gettysburg has undergone many changes and witnessed significant historical events. Historians often examine artifacts related to these events, but we rarely consider the context of their discovery locations. Understanding how these sites themselves can reveal more about these important moments is crucial. While the written record tells us what happened during these historical events, archaeological evidence can sometimes present a different narrative. How can we utilize what has been discovered underground to better interpret the battle for Seminary Ridge?

Kaleb Kusmierczyk began his career at Seminary Ridge Museum and Education Center in 2018 as a Visitor Services Assistant. After completing the season, he left but returned the following year to fill the role of Lead Visitor Services Assistant. Since 2019, Kaleb has held several positions at the museum, culminating in his promotion to Director of Museum Operations in 2024.

Kaleb has had a passion for history, particularly the Civil War and the Battle of Gettysburg, since childhood. During his college years, he completed several internships and volunteered at various museums in the Central Pennsylvania region, including The National Civil War Museum, Shippensburg University Fashion Archives and Museum, and the Antique Auto Club of America Museum. In 2017, he earned a Bachelor's Degree in History with a concentration in Public History from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
