🐕 About Diabetic Alert Dogs (DADs)
Diabetic Alert Dogs are highly trained service animals that can detect dangerous blood sugar changes before they become emergencies — often 15–30 minutes before a meter or monitor does. They alert their handler (and parents!) through specific signals, allowing for quick action to prevent severe highs or lows.
For young children like Dax, these dogs provide an extra layer of safety and peace of mind, especially during sleep or play when monitoring is hardest. Beyond their lifesaving alerts, they offer comfort, companionship, and independence — helping kids with Type 1 Diabetes live fuller, safer lives.
