The evening will begin with a welcome and introduction by Rita Stinner, followed by a reading of Nebraska State Poet Jewel Rodgers’ America 250 poem presented by Madelynn Battles. Ashley Olson, Director of the Willa Cather Institute in Red Cloud, Nebraska, will share a presentation exploring the cultural and historical significance of Willa Cather and her lasting influence on Nebraska and American literature.

Guests who are able are invited to participate in a short walk to the Gering Public Library for the official unveiling ceremony, where library representatives will present the sculpture to Mayor Kent Ewing on behalf of the City of Gering.

Following the ceremony, enjoy a patriotic evening concert in the Plaza featuring the Back Porch Bluegrass Band, sponsored by Gering Tourism. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy a picnic-style evening celebrating Nebraska’s literary heritage, public art, and the spirit of America. Scott Free Brewing Co. and The Mixing Bowl will be on site with food and beverages available for purchase.
