- **Event Description**: Join USC master’s student Emily Contract as she shares her research on microplastics in the Winyah Bay and North Inlet estuaries. Emily will bring along a microscope for an up-close look at microplastics and lead a fun, interactive activity for all participants.

In this playful, hands-on game, participants will discover how challenging it can be for animals to distinguish real food from dangerous litter. Wearing kaleidoscope glasses, each participant will search the room for “food” using only a spoon—while carefully avoiding pieces of pretend plastic pollution scattered throughout the space. After gathering their items and returning to their starting point, we’ll talk about how easily wildlife can confuse trash for food in their natural habitats.

To finish the activity, participants will receive a colorful, informative handout with simple ways they can help reduce pollution, reuse everyday items, and recycle responsibly. This program builds awareness, sparks curiosity, and empowers people of all ages to become everyday environmental protectors. Program is suggested for ages 5 to 105!
