In Outrage snijdt regisseur Ida Lupino de thematiek van seksueel misbruik en de nasleep ervan aan op een manier die – zeker voor die tijd (1950) – grensverleggend en taboedoorbrekend was. Deze ondergewaardeerde en verwoestend mooie film noir krijgt een gloednieuwe live-score van componiste en elektronische artieste Laryssa Kim.

Ida Lupino: Een filmpionier

Lupino omschreef zichzelf als een "bulldozer" voor financiering, maar als een "moeder" op de set die haar acteurs koesterde. Ze was een ware filmpionier, zéker in het vertellen van vrouwenverhalen. Na haar start als actrice (naast Humphrey Bogart in High Sierra) werd ze de eerste vrouwelijke regisseur van een film noir (The Hitch-Hiker, 1953) en de enige vrouw die The Twilight Zone regisseerde. In haar acht films schuwde ze controverse niet: zo kaartte ze ongeplande zwangerschap aan in Not Wanted (1949) en bigamie in The Bigamist. Haar meesterwerk is Outrage (1950), destijds een gedurfde stap omdat de Hollywood-censuur (de Hays Code) niet op zulke thema's was gebouwd. 

De live-score: Laryssa Kim

De nieuwe soundtrack is in handen van de veelzijdige Italo-Congolese artieste Laryssa Kim. Haar rituele soundscapes, waarin musique concrète versmelt met ambient en breekbare zang, gooien hoge ogen. Vorig jaar nog werd haar betoverende album Contezza bejubeld door Pitchfork.

Geboren in Rome, verfijnde ze haar ambacht in de Amsterdamse theater- en danswereld, waarna ze in 2013 naar Brussel trok. Na een master in acousmatische compositie in Bergen, lanceerde ze in 2015 haar live-elektronicaproject. Op het podium versmelt haar bezielde stem met hypnotiserende soundscapes, subtiele field recordings, minimalistische triphop en elektro-akoestische arrangementen. Kim neemt de luisteraar mee op een meeslepende, dromerige klankodyssee die alle zintuigen prikkelt.
