Under my Umbrella: book presentation by Taisiia Nakonechna
Taisiia Nakonechna/Ukr. Таїсія Наконечна (born 2 May 1985) is a young Ukrainian author, visual artist and translator. Since early childhood she has been fond of literature – her first poems were written at the age of eight or nine. Later, in secondary school and in college, Taisiia participated in and became the winner of several writing contests. As the prize for one of them (Vadym Koval Literature Contest for young authors - 2003) her first book of poetry “Безріччя” (“Thinglessness”) was published.
In 2002-2010, Taisiia was a part of literary scene in Chernivtsi. Her poems and short stories were published in local press and included in several anthologies (2006-2010). In 2010 she stopped being active as a writer, though she still continued to occasionally write poems and short essays, neither of which were published until her second book “Nightingales from Shoaling” (Ukr. «Солов’ї з Шаоліня») appeared in 2017. This was her fresh start in literature.
Earlier, in 2015 Taisiia Nakonechna took up drawing and painting. Currently, Taisiia lives in Ghent, Belgium, where she studies drawing in Sint-Lucas Academie (SLA-Gent).
The present book "Under my Umbrella" is the first time the author’s texts are published in a foreign language.
The author about her book:
I have collected this book as a mosaic – piece by piece – during all these years. These texts are like quick sketches, verbal etudes – full of emotions and feelings – here and now. The recurrent theme of the book is the invocation to love our life and value every unique moment.
At the same time, this book is a dedication to all my friends whose lives ended abruptly and tragically over the recent several years. To all those friends of mine whose lives and whose unexpected deaths gave me an enormous inspiration to strive for the better in my own life, to change the attitude to reality and not to lose any chance presented to me by God. Remembering them, I always feel sad about every single neglected talent.
