𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗲𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗺𝘆 𝘅 𝗢𝘁𝗮𝘆:𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗶
This collaboration between thisquietarmy (Eric Quach) and otay:onii (Lane Shi) traces its origins to a European tour in Spring 2023, where both artists crossed paths as part of the Hypnodrone Ensemble—a Berlin-based project led by Quach and Aidan Baker. otay:onii, originally brought on as the tour's opening act, soon joined the Ensemble on stage, becoming a key contributor to their new album recorded during the tour. The musical connection forged on the road deepened in the Summer of 2023, when Eric invited Lane to perform in his hometown of Montreal, which sparked an impromptu live collaboration, later titled "A Moose Dodging Funeral C" at the legendary venue Casa del Popolo,
The duo further harnessed their chemistry into this hauntingly immersive album at Eric's studio the next day—fusing Quach's dense, atmospheric guitar drones with Shi's visceral vocals and textural sensibilities, blurring the edges between drone, avant-garde noise, and experimental vocal performance. The result is a dialogue between ethereal dissonance and visceral emotion, a powerful convergence of post-industrial ambience and emotionally charged experimentation—capturing the tension, intimacy, and unpredictability of their evolving creative partnership.
