De situatie in Palestina blijft verwoestend. De genocide in Gaza houdt aan. Het Israëlisch geweld tegen de Palestijnen op de Westelijke Jordaanoever en in Oost-Jeruzalem neemt toe. We moeten het agressieve bezettings- en apartheidsregime van Israël blijven aanklagen. Onlangs werd opnieuw een grens overschreden. Israël voert de doodstraf in, maar enkel voor Palestijnse gevangenen.

Ondertussen staat het Midden-Oosten in brand. Samen met de Verenigde Staten startte Israël een illegale oorlog tegen Iran. Ze bombarderen er energiecentrales, scholen, ziekenhuizen en andere burgerinfrastructuur. En in Libanon is een tweede Gaza in de maak. Israël is het zuiden van het land binnengevallen, doodde al ongeveer 2000 Libanezen en dreef er meer dan een miljoen mensen op de vlucht. 

De VS-agressie is niet beperkt tot het Midden-Oosten, getuige de militaire interventie in Venezuela en de verstikkende economische blokkade tegen Cuba. 

Van Palestina tot Libanon, van Iran tot Latijns-Amerika zien we dezelfde logica: volkeren worden aangevallen en verstikt om geopolitieke belangen veilig te stellen en strategische hulpbronnen te controleren.

En Europa blijft zich hullen in stilzwijgen. De EU is nog steeds niet bereid om Israël en de VS ondubbelzinnig te veroordelen, laat staan te sanctioneren.

Daarom trekken we opnieuw de straat op. Nee tegen imperialisme! Nee tegen kolonialisme! Nee tegen apartheid! 

Op zaterdag 25 april verzamelen we in Gent het kader van het 'Eye on Palestine'-festival voor een optocht voor bevrijding en vrijheid voor iedereen, en tegen imperialisme en kolonialisme overal. Laten we er opnieuw een grote mobilisatie van maken. Afspraak om 14u op het Sint-Baafsplein.

The situation in Palestine remains devastating. The genocide in Gaza continues. Israeli violence against Palestinians in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem is increasing. We must continue to denounce Israel’s aggressive regime of occupation and apartheid. Recently, another line was crossed. Israel is introducing the death penalty, but only for Palestinian prisoners.

Meanwhile, the Middle East is on fire. Together with the United States, Israel has launched an illegal war against Iran. They are bombing power plants, schools, hospitals, and other civilian infrastructure. And in Lebanon, a second Gaza is in the making. Israel has invaded the south of the country, has already killed around 2,000 Lebanese people, and has driven more than a million people from their homes.

US aggression is not limited to the Middle East, as shown by the military intervention in Venezuela and the suffocating economic blockade against Cuba.

From Palestine to Lebanon, from Iran to Latin America, we see the same logic: peoples are attacked and strangled to secure geopolitical interests and control strategic resources.

And Europe continues to cloak itself in silence. The EU is still not prepared to unequivocally condemn Israel and the United States, let alone impose sanctions.

That is why we are taking to the streets once again. No to imperialism! No to colonialism! No to apartheid!

On Saturday, April 25, we will gather in Ghent as part of the “Eye on Palestine” festival for a march for liberation and freedom for all, and against imperialism and colonialism everywhere. Let’s make it another large mobilization. Meeting point at 2 p.m. at Sint-Baafsplein.
