Dana begon in de sixties als folk- en popzangeres, werkte samen met grootheden als David Bowie — die speciaal voor haar het nummer Andy Warhol schreef en haar album Weren’t Born a Man produceerde samen met Mick Ronson. Ze schitterde als Maria Magdalena in de eerste Londense productie van Jesus Christ Superstar (1972) en koos nadien resoluut voor het bluesgenre waarin ze wereldwijd naam maakte. ✩✩✩✩✩

Als ambassadrice van de Risqué Blues brengt Dana songs doorspekt met dubbelzinnige teksten, energie en humor.
