Sheer Terror, groupe américain de punk hardcore de New York, a été formé en décembre 1984. La formation originale comprenait le chanteur Paul Bearer, le guitariste Alan Blake, le bassiste Baron "Barry" Misuraca et le batteur Sam "Reid" Lohman. 
Le groupe a figuré sur la compilation One Big Crowd et a sorti deux démos sur cassette en 1987. Le premier album du groupe, Just Can't Hate Enough, est sorti en 1990 sous le label Blackout Records. Après des changements de groupe, Sheer Terror sort son deuxième album, Ugly and Proud, en 1992. Ils ont signé avec MCA Records pour la sortie de Love Songs for the Unloved en 1995. Malgré ces efforts, Sheer Terror se sépare en 1998 en raison de conflits internes et de problèmes de label. 
Le groupe s'est brièvement reformé en octobre 2004 pour deux concerts au CBGB Club de New York. (lien, extrait ci-dessous).
