2019 will be the fourth consecutive 'Walk for Johno' event which is held from Queenscliff to Eastern Hub, East Geelong. There are four different walk options which allows something for everyone and concludes with a new celebration venue for 2019 at the amazing Eastern Hub, East Geelong. There are activities for the kids including face painting, Children's entertainer, BBQ and cake stall, a senesational raffle and a chance to support a very worthy cause - The Heart Foundation.
Is this really a FREE event?
Yes we are so lucky to have our marvellous team of sponsor's that support us to offer this event for free! In addition to this the public and supporters of Walk for Johno have been tremendous in ensuring that we can make this a free evet. For us this event is as much about rasining awareness as it is about raising funds. Of course we would love you to help by creating a fundraising page, donating, buying merchandise & raffle tickets and coming to the celebration at Eastern Hub, but what you can do is up to you and your situation. We just want the community to get invloved and feel a part of it!
Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?
No, anyone can participate in this event but please choose an option that is right for your fitness level and capabilities. Ensure that you adequately train and prepare for the distance you are planning on walking so you are ready. People only feel tired and broken if they have not trained properly or are wearing the incorrect footwear, padding or socks.
What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?
If you are completing the full walk there is transportation to Queenscliff available from 3 starting points at either Eastern Hub, East Geelong, Leopold or Drsyale train station but numbers are limited to 110 so you will need to indicate that you require transport. You will need to do this on the eventbrite site by choosing the option during the registration process. If you are starting at a different section and not completing the full walk, we encourage you to either be dropped off and collected at your finishing point or arrange a car pool. Contact us via email at d2Fsa2ZvcmpvaG5vaGVhcnQgfCBnbWFpbCAhIGNvbQ== or message us via the facebook page if you have any questions.
What do I need to bring/wear on the day?
You will need to carry your own band-aids, sunscreen, blister packs, asthma Medic*tion and any other Medic*tion you may need with you. You will also need to carry suitable snacks and food depending on the distance you are walking. You need to wear suitable attire and check the weather forecast. If you are prone to blisters we encourage you to change your socks (make sure they are of a good quality) every 10kms and ensure that you have suitable blister packs.
Can l walk my dog, ride a bike or a scooter?
Unfortunately due to insurance purposes, we do not have our participants covered for any activity other than walking. Scooters and Dogs are not included in the permit information required from the council so you are doing this at your own risk. If you injure another person due to a bike, scooter or dog you will be personally liable and Walk for Johno take no responsibility for this. We are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.
I cannot walk but can l just come to Eastern Hub, East Geelong for the post walk celebrations?
Absolutely, whilst we would love everyone to walk if they can, we understand some people can't and we would love you to join us still! Come along to the hub from 2pm -5pm for celebrations and fun!
