Opening remarks and welcome

◾️ Romana Kadzikowska-Wrzosek
Ph.D. / Associate Professor
Professor Szymków-Sudziarska is a psychologist and the Vice-Director of the Institute of Psychology. In her research, she uses the evolutionary and social cognition approaches to study human social behaviors. Her projects focus on social implications of the behavioral immune system, the impact of ovulation on cognitive function of women, and friendship between men and women. At SWPS University's Faculty of Psychology in Sopot, she teaches classes in evolutionary psychology, social psychology, and empirical research.

From Cave Paintings to Tinder: The Origins of Human Creativity
Where did human creativity come from, and why has it helped us impress others for thousands of years? This lecture takes the audience on a journey from prehistoric cave paintings, through examples of creativity in the animal world, to modern dating apps. It presents creativity as a form of signaling—a way of communicating ability, intelligence, and attractiveness. From an evolutionary and psychological perspective, we will discover that creativity may reveal far more about us than we realize.

◾️ Katarzyna Gałasińska-Grygorczuk
Researcher focused on the biological foundations of social behavior. Her doctoral dissertation examined changes in creative thinking under the influence of reproductive factors, such as the ovulatory cycle, as well as in the context of romantic relationships. She is the author of numerous publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals. For her academic and public engagement, she was awarded the Professor Zbigniew Pietrasiński Creative Scholarship.

? Workshop: What connects us to other animals – and what connects us to them even more?
The workshop will focus on highlighting less obvious connections between humans and other animals. It will emphasize both similarities and important interspecies differences.

◾️ Dawid Mikulski
A fifth-year psychology student at SWPS University, he serves as Chair of the Student Government at SWPS University in Sopot and as Chair of the Darwin’s Finches Club, a student research group focused on topics in evolutionary psychology. His research interests include pathogen avoidance mechanisms, the emotion of disgust, and processes related to the perception of attractiveness. He is a member of the European Human Behaviour and Evolution Association (EHBEA), the Human Behavior and Evolution Society (HBES), the International Society for Human Ethology (ISHE), and the Polish Society for Human and Evolutionary Studies (PTNCE).

? Interactive lecture: Why Bother With Sleep? Is It a Waste of Time or a Vital Time for the Body and Brain?
This interactive lecture offers a brief introduction to the fascinating field of health psychology, focusing on sleep behavior. We will begin by discussing the purpose of health psychology and why it has developed into a distinct discipline. Then, we will explore the importance of sleep and the consequences of not taking it seriously.

◾️ Marta Jackowska
Ph.D. / Associate Professor
Professor Marta Jackowska is a health psychologist. Her research interests focus on sleep studies, for example the impact of sleep on cognitive functions, affective disorders, and reaction to stress and experimental studies aimed at the improvement of the quality of sleep. At SWPS University she teaches classes in health psychology.

? Lecture: Smartphone Dystopia: How Technology Has Hijacked Our Attention
Does your smartphone know more about you than the people closest to you? Why do we mindlessly refresh the screen, as if pulling a lever in Skinner’s laboratory? During this talk, we will take a closer look at how social media shapes our decisions, emotions, relationships, and ability to concentrate. Drawing on the latest psychological research and real-life examples, I will show that smartphone addiction is no accident. It is the result of a precisely engineered mechanism. You will also learn how to regain control over your own attention and why even Steve Jobs did not allow his children to use an iPad.

◾️ Konrad Bocian
Ph.D. / Associate Professor
Konrad Bocian is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at SWPS University in Sopot. He specializes in moral and social psychology and focuses his research on egocentric biases in moral judgments at both individual and group levels. His work has earned him several scholarships, including those from the Foundation for Polish Science, the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange, and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. Additionally, he received the Robert Zajonc Award from the Polish Social Psychological Society. The National Science Centre in Poland has also funded his research through the OPUS and SONATA schemes and competitions organized by the European Association of Social Psychology. Furthermore, he serves as an Associate Editor for both the Social Psychological Bulletin and the European Journal of Social Psychology.
