This selection of recent short films starts a conversation about how working-class filmmakers are capturing class experience in the Britain of today, spanning documentaries, flights of fancy and realism.What these films uncover are working-class experiences that are rich in creativity, complications, uncertainties and contradictions: the very things that make a film worth watching. This programme of shorts, selected by filmmaker and curator Nia Childs, is for anyone who wants to explore working class Britain as it is and imagines itself to be, in the hope of discovering something new.BFI NETWORK Mixers bring together local creatives and provide opportunities for growing your network, finding collaborators, and connecting with the filmmaking community.This event includes a Q&A between Paul Chambers, director of Three Bull-Mastiffs in a Corner Kitchen and BFI NETWORK Talent Executive Jen Bradfield.Paul Chambers is a writer/director originally from North Yorkshire now based in Manchester. His short films and documentaries have won multiple awards, including a nomination for a BIFA. His films have been screened in prisons, rehab centres and in spaces where real change can take place. Chambers is interested in the space between fact and fiction and strives to tell Northern British stories about his own lived experience and those around him.Doors open 18:30; Film starts 18:45.
