# Event Details - **Event Name**: Coastal Foraging Walk and Wild Foraged Seaweed Meal - Kirkandrews, Borgue - **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 26 Jun, 2025 at 04:30 pm – Thu, 26 Jun, 2025 at 07:30 pm - **Event Description**: Join us for an afternoon of exploring a serene expanse of Galloway’s coastline and learn about the incredible seaweeds and coastal plants that thrive on the shore. -------------------- About the workshop An opportunity to slow down and unwind, this relaxing time of coastal foraging will recalibrate our movements in line with the gentle pull of the tides. A space in which to rest and learn amidst the beauty of seaweed and the many marvels of rock pools. We will meet in the charming village of Kirkandrews before making our way down to the shore for low tide where we will meet and gather a variety of beautiful coastal plants and seaweeds. After a long, gentle exploratory walk, we will return to the Kirk for a meal that will incorporate different kinds of seaweed and many of the plants we've encountered along the way. Over cups of healing wild tea and cakes made with forged ingredients (all recipes to be included!) I will teach you how to make medicine, food and seasonings with our most nutritious and delectable seaweeds, as well as the coastal plants that thrive alongside them. This workshop will also introduce you to the diverse fauna that live along the shore, taking time to examine the exquisite crustacea, molluscs, fish and birds that also know the sea as home. After this event you will: Know how to safely identify a wide range of seaweeds and coastal plants. Know how to safely gather seaweed, understand tide tables and work with spring tides. Know how best to safely (and deliciously!) prepare and store seaweed so that it can be used as both food and medicine. Be able to identify a number of edible shore molluscs and crustacea. Learn to identify seabirds by their tracks and calls. Know a beautiful stretch of Galloway's coastline and where to gather specific seaweeds. All profits from our ticketed walks are fed directly back into our programme of events supporting refugees and asylum seekers across South West Scotland.
