Please join us on Saturday, April 18 for an evening with Vancouver writer and filmmaker Kagan Goh, who will be reading excerpts from his book Surviving Samsara and his poetry collection Nothing Is Forged Without Fire. 

We are really pleased to be hosting this event and to open up discussions around mental health, something which is very much the cornerstone of the work we want to do at Phoenix Landing.

Surviving Samsara recounts the writer’s struggles with manic depression, and explores his diagnosis of bipolar mood disorder not only as a medical condition but as a spiritual emergence – a vehicle for personal growth, healing and transcendence. Surviving Samsara tells a deeply personal story of recovery, acceptance and unconditional self-love and humanizes the challenges of those living with mental illness.

Surviving Samsara was published by Caitlin Press in 2021, and was shortlisted for the Singapore Literature Prize 2022 in the creative nonfiction in English category. 

Maureen Moore will introduce Kagan, and following the reading there will be a Q&A and discussion with the author about the book, his journey and issues relating to mental health and recovery.

ABOUT THE WRITER
Originally from Singapore, Kagan Goh is a Vancouver-based Chinese Canadian multidisciplinary artist: award-winning filmmaker, published author, spoken word poet, mental health advocate and activist.
