an electronic music ‘synthposium’ and workshop for youth on Galiano Island 

This play-based, hands-on interactive, STEM informed educational workshop and gathering is for youth 10+ years of age interested in electronic music instruments and performance. 

Participants will have exclusive access to a unique collection of electronic instruments all set up and ready for hands-on exploratory play. 

Meet fellow sound nerds, deepen your understanding of what being an electronic musician or sound artist can be and explore your sonic flavour in a safe, supportive, kind and inclusive environment with knowledgeable guidance 

The cohort of youth will form into groups, choose  project titles and develop 5-10 minute final performances 

Together we will explore and practice our deep listening skills through a hybrid of sound mapping and sound walk exercises, creating graphic scores that guide the collaborative finale performances for each other on-stage at the Yellowhouse Arts Centre outdoor amphitheater located on Galiano Island, BC

Headphones will be distributed for you to utilise during the event and keep afterwards, with a compilation album of recordings of the finale performances distributed soon after

We encourage youth of all gender expressions and backgrounds.

The venue, Yellowhouse Arts Center, located on sunny Galiano Island is partially accessible and has areas that might not be suited for limited mobility participants though we will work with the space and staff to create as safe and inclusive an experience as possible. There is an accessibility ramp to the main outdoor amphitheatre space,  where most activities take place, located beside the parking lot. The main gallery will be a quiet space to reflect and rest. The yellowhouse is around a 5 minute uphill walk from the ferry.
