As part of our Forest Fridays series, Elachee is excited to launch the brand-new Women of the Woods Club—a monthly gathering designed to empower women to explore nature with knowledge, safety, and confidence. Some months will feature special guest speakers with extensive knowledge, ready to share their experience and expertise with participants!
📅 First Program: Friday, October 3, 2025. Programs will take place on the first Friday of each month as a part of the Forest Fridays programming.
🕒 Time: 3:00–5:00 PM
🎫 Admission is FREE!
Each month, participants will learn a new outdoor skill and experience a different hiking trail in the Chicopee Woods. We’ll start with shorter hikes and gradually level up, building endurance and confidence together.
Schedule of Topics:
October - Basics of Hiking Intro- Guest speaker will be Amy Brigham, frequent Chicopee Woods Trails hiker and Elachee Board Member
November - Packing for a Day Hike- Guest speaker will be David Scobey, Elachee Trail Crew Volunteer, and experienced hiker
December - Selecting Proper Footwear- Guest speaker will be Elachee Naturalist, ultrarunner, and former REI team member, Norma Rainwater.
January - Mental Health and Hiking- Guest speaker will be Elachee Naturalist, Laurin Peacock
February - Knot tying- Guest speaker will be Chris Romberg, Elachee's Director of Natural Resources
March - Archery
April - Backpacking and Extended Mileage Guided Hike- Guest speaker will be Elachee's Director of Education and former Appalachian Trail Thru Hiker, Maranda Martin
May - Wildlife Encounters
