Winter brings a wonderful mix of ducks, plus more hawks, herons, and Bald Eagles across the valley! 🦆 We’ll visit three birding spots — you’re welcome to join us for all or just the ones that fit your morning.
Here's where you can find us:
1️⃣ 8:00 a.m.: If you'd like to caravan with the trip leader, meet at the Colorado Welcome Center in Fruita. Carpooling is encouraged.
2️⃣ 8:15 a.m.: Our first birding stop is at the Colorado River State Park in Fruita, south parking lot of the south lake. Please bring a state parks pass.
3️⃣ 9:15 a.m.: Next, we’ll head to Connected Lakes at the Colorado River State Park. Meet at the restroom parking lot (second left in the park). A state parks pass is needed here as well.
4️⃣ 10:30 a.m.: Our final stop is at the Pear Lake section of the Colorado River State Park on 29 Road. (This is NOT Corn Lake on 32 Road!) Park in the Riverside Trail lot north of the river and south of C 1/2 Road. We’ll take a slow half-mile walk east on the paved trail and return to the cars. We expect to finish before noon.
All are welcome! Whether you're a seasoned birder or a first-timer, you’re warmly invited. Birders with limited mobility are especially invited to the first two stops, where we’ll be birding from level parking areas. No registration needed, just show up!
✍️ What to bring: snacks, water, weather-appropriate layers, and binoculars if you have them. Scopes will be available at the first two stops, and you’re welcome to bring your own. Restrooms are available at all three locations.
