The Promise of Unbroken Straw, won the 2025 Oklahoma Book Award. Available in both hardback and e-Book, it is a coming-of-age story that begins on an Oklahoma farm during WWII and plays out in a parallel timeline. 

Kirkus Reviews concluded that “. . . Steele expertly combines historical details with kitchen-sink drama. What results is . . . [an] epic coming-of-age story.” One blogger selected it as her favorite read of the past year on a list that included The Women. It is currently rated 4.5 on Goodreads.
