Indonesian artists developed batik from a traditional craft of decorating clothing into a modern art. Its challenging and unique method of mark making yields special visual textures and a luminous quality of color.Participants in this class will learn several ways to apply wax, how to use fiber reactive dyes, batik-specific design considerations, and finishing steps. We will have time to work at least one piece all the way through: wax-dye-repeat-boil out. All supplies will be provided. Participants may bring their own fabric to work on - pure cellulose fibers such as cotton, linen or rayon take dye the best.All experience levels are welcome in this class! Perfect for anyone who enjoys working with textiles, appreciators of surface design, and artists looking to explore a very unique medium.This class is taught by Oregon-based textile artist Cooper Otte.This class is held at the Art Barn at the new Alchemy Art Farm at 45 Hawthorne Lane.
