Four federal dams. A complicated history. And 74 Southern Resident orcas on the edge of extinction. Directed by six-time Emmy Award winner John Carlos Frey, The Snake and the Whale examines the forces behind the Lower Snake River dams and their cascading impact on the salmon runs these whales depend on to survive. Part nature documentary, part investigative journalism, the film follows the evidence where it leads — through decades of decisions about the river, the fish, and the communities whose futures are bound to both. 


Following the film, audiences will hear a recorded interview with Executive Producer Scott Levy — a tireless advocate of nearly three decades working to protect Idaho's salmon runs and the broader Northwest ecosystem — with updates on the film and the dam removal fight.
