FR : Composé de vétérans issus d’autres projets tels que Spray Paint, Black Eyes, Swans ou USA/Mexico, Water Damage a sorti le 16 mai dernier l’album Instruments sur 12XU records, et repousse encore les limites du drone jusqu’à l’extrême, fidèle à son principe « Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation » pour une musique de la durée, de la répétition et de la transe.  

En live, le supergroupe transforme la répétition en une expérience hypnotique. D’abord intrigante, presque déroutante, leur musique finit par absorber totalement l’auditeur·rice·x. Les repères s’effacent peu à peu, l’espace rationnel disparaît, l’esprit se vide et il ne reste plus qu’une sensation saisissante de se dissoudre dans le son.

DE: Water Damage vereint Musiker*innen aus Projekten wie Spray Paint, Black Eyes, Swans oder USA/Mexico. Getreu ihrem Grundsatz „Maximal Repetition Minimal Deviation“ verschiebt das Oktett aus Austin, Texas die Grenzen des Drone-Genres erneut bis zum Äussersten – hin zu einer Musik der Dauer, der Wiederholung und der Trance. Am 16. Mai erschien mit “Instruments” ihr neuestes Album auf 12XU Records. 

Live verwandelt Water Damage Wiederholung in ein hypnotisches Erlebnis. Was zunächst faszinierend und beinahe irritierend wirkt, entwickelt nach und nach eine enorme Sogkraft. Orientierungspunkte verschwinden, der rationale Raum löst sich auf, der Geist leert sich – bis nur noch das überwältigende Gefühl bleibt, vollständig im Klang zu verschmelzen.
