Each year, communities around the globe gather to honor the victims and survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima on August 6, 1945, and Nagasaki on August 9, 1945. These bombings remain the only use of nuclear weapons in armed conflict and continue to serve as a powerful reminder of the devastating human cost of war and the enduring importance of peace. Annual memorial ceremonies in Hiroshima and Nagasaki are dedicated to remembering those who were lost and renewing a commitment to a world free from nuclear weapons.

The remembrance ceremony at Shinzen Garden provides an opportunity for our community to gather in a spirit of reflection and unity. Through words of remembrance, cultural observances, and moments of quiet contemplation, we honor the memories of those whose lives were forever changed by the events of August 1945 and recognize the resilience of the hibakusha—the survivors who have dedicated their lives to sharing messages of peace.
