Of Wool and Words is a creative writing workshop which will explore the ancient traditions of livestock farming, spinning and weaving, and celebrate the combination of nature, people and place.
Participants will be encouraged to consider pastoral poems, the interaction between humans and nature, and how farming is portrayed within literature.
The Green Barn is also home to Wensleydale and Angora Goats, and participants can learn more about how The Green Barn team uses a collection of traditional processes to turn the raw fleece and fibres into a range of handmade products.
The workshop will be facilitated by Kate Young, an experienced writer/editor and educator. Kate is a member of the Isle of Wight Creative Network, and she is currently finishing an MA in Creative Writing.  Read more about Kate here: https://httpskateyoungwriter.com 
The Green Barn is situated on the main A3054 Newport-Yarmouth Road near Bouldnor, and there is parking on-site. The area is relatively flat, and participants do not need to walk far.
The Green Barn is served by the number 7 Southern Vectis bus, and the nearest bus stop is Cranmore Avenue. Please note that bus users will have to walk a short distance along the busy main road and there is no pavement.
Tickets will be priced at £6 and there is a maximum of 12 spaces.
Teenagers are welcome, but please note that all participants under 16 should be accompanied by an adult. Refreshments will be available.
The workshop's aims are:
1. to encourage a greater awareness of what it means to be a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
2. to encourage people to explore nature in a creative way and record their ideas.
3. to celebrate the fact that The Green Barn continues the traditional crafts of spinning and weaving (and has its own Wensleydale sheep and Angora goats).
4. to consider 'pastoral poems' which explore the relationships between humans and nature
