- **Event Description**: TAQDEER (1943)  Directed by legendary filmmaker Mehboob Khan, Taqdeer is a Hindi romantic drama starring Motilal and Nargis, with pioneering Indian comic actor Noor Mohammed Charlie in a memorable supporting role. The film is especially notable for introducing a young Nargis in her first leading role, years before she became one of the most celebrated stars of Indian cinema.

For this special screening, the Niles Essanay Silent Film Museum is delighted to welcome Amna Sheikh, granddaughter of Noor Mohammed Charlie, who will briefly introduce the film. At its conclusion, she will share insights into her grandfather’s life, career, and legacy. Drawing on her family’s history, Amna will offer a personal perspective on the man behind the screen persona and Charlie’s place in the story of early Indian cinema. As time permits, this will be followed by a Q & A session.

Join us for a rare opportunity to experience Taqdeer on the big screen and to celebrate the work of one of Indian cinema’s pioneering comic performers through both film and family memory.
