Lakelyn earned her Ph.D. in Gerontology from the University of Nebraska – Omaha and is a respected national speaker on caregiving and aging. She is a regular contributor to media outlets including ForbesHealth, Newsweek, and shows including Dr. Phil and Dr. Oz. Lakelyn hosts Caregiver Chats, a podcast focused on providing support and resources to family caregivers.
Committed to community service, Lakelyn serves on numerous boards including the National Alliance for Caregiving, Mosaic, and is a member of the Alzheimer's Association’s Dementia Care Provider Roundtable.                 "description": "In an effort to have a more direct local impact with the dollars raised, the Fremont Area Alzheimer's Collaboration has partnered with the Fremont Area Community Foundation. Forty percent of the monies raised by the committee will be donated directly to institutions doing cutting edge research in Alzheimer's disease, and sixty percent will be given as grants to support caregiver education and programming in the Fremont area.A recent grant from the Fremont Area Alzheimer's Collaboration was a $30,000 grant to help support the development of retinal and optic nerve imaging capabilities within the UNMC Department of Neurological Sciences Mind and Brain Health Laboratory to investigate and validate retinal and optic nerve biomarkers in Alzheimer's disease. Biomarkers are biological measures of the presence, progression and response to treatment of a disease condition.
