The Middle East Crisis – Lessons for Australia

At the time of writing, the attacks against Iran by the USA and Israel have resulted in an estimated 3,600 deaths, nearly half of which are civilians. 

Along with the loss of life, the attacks have caused inflation, and shortages of crucial goods to many countries. Australia has not been spared, with our vulnerability to energy supply chains laid bare. Should this crisis force us to rethink how to make our energy supplies more secure and resilient?

The war also focuses attention on the pros and cons of our unquestioned defence and security dependence on America. The Albanese government immediately approved America’s bombing attack on Iran, but as the conflict has continued, our support has become less wholehearted. 

What lessons can we learn here? The Fremantle Network invite you to the Local for a Politics in the Pub about the war in Iran.

We have four speakers to start our discussion:
