The Freeport Community Concert Association presents the acclaimed duo of Peter H. Bloom, flute, & John Funkhouser, piano, in a Salute to Duke Ellington. Hailed for "infectious brio" (The New York City Jazz Record), Peter and John will celebrate Duke and his esteemed co-composers Billy Strayhorn, Juan Tizol, & Mercer Ellington, with classics and rarities like "Caravan", "Take the A Train", "I'm Beginning to See the Lights", "East Saint Louis Toodle-Oo", and "Jump for Joy".
Praised for "Swinging performances" (Textura Magazine, Ontario) and called "master musicians" (CultureJazz.France), The Bloom/Funkhouser Duo will perform an exhilarating tribute to Duke Ellington and his extraordinary collaborators. Peter & John bring virtuosity and inventiveness to wide-ranging treasures, from Ellington's high-octane "Cottontail" to Juan Tizol's exotic "Caravan", to Strayhorn's evocative ballad "Isfahan", and Mercer Ellington's iconic blues number "Things Ain't What They Used To Be".
