Judy will focus on what birds do to get ready to be able to migrate long distances. Birds have to eat unbelievable amounts of food, even doubling their body weight. Some fly at high altitudes, even crossing Mount Everest, sleeping while in flight, and molting new flight feathers before a long journey. Judy will tie it all into their most important reason to migrate, which is to give birth to a new generation.
Judy Paris has been fascinated with birds from an early age. She earned a BA in physiology and later both a BS and MS in nursing and eventually became a nursing professor. Now retired, she focuses on studying what makes birds tick, putting to use her love of science. She gives talks on many subjects, including birds and other wildlife. Her emphasis is always on changing people’s perceptions about nature and all living things.

Open to the public. Free of charge. Light refreshments served.
