She discovered that it was difficult to place her used books with the children who would most benefit from them. Fueled by her desire to make a difference in her community, she created The Book Fairies, a Long Island based non-profit organization, that accepts donations of new and gently used books, and connects them with libraries, schools and organizations throughout metropolitan New York that do not have the funds to foster the love of reading for their children.The Book Fairies is a 501 not-for-profit organization that collects reading materials for people in need throughout metropolitan New York. The reading materials foster literacy and academic success, provide a respite from personal struggles, and nurture a love of reading across age groups.On Friday, May 19th, Grassi volunteers will participate at The Book Fairies Organization to:sort through donated bookscheck for age condition of books and sorting by typepack books into boxes at The Book Fairies warehouseVolunteer Maximum:  20 participantsAdditional Information:Once you have completed your Eventbrite registration, a member of the Grassi HR team will reach out with additional steps needed to complete your volunteer sign-up.We recommend everyone wear comfortable shoes and dress according to the weather. Our warehouse has minimal heat and we do not have air conditioning.This volunteer opportunity is available to Jericho office, Ronkonkoma office. and New York office employees only.
