FLINTA* TO THE FRONT (of house)
*(Female, Lesbian, Intersex, Non-binary, Trans, and Agender)
Live sound is another one of those industries plagued by lack of diversity so lets change it. We're holding a workshop to get more people behind the mixing console. There will also be an additional live sound training workshop the following week open to everyone (not just FLINTA).
What to expect:
-This session is aimed for folks with a general understanding of sound (you know what a microphone is and that you point it at the sound you want to record) but not hyper advanced (what ratio should I have my vocal compressor set to if they're screaming and singing)
-We will set up a stage together and go over mic placement
-We will do a sound check for each instrument, going over what you will see on the mixer, and what to listen for.
-We will make a monitor mix and talk about how musicians usually communicate what they need to hear on stage.
-We will talk about troubleshooting and how to fix the most common issues during shows (feedback, live mixing, someone kicked the bass drum mic and now its on the floor)
-Tear down, question and answer, and general expectations when taking a live sound shift (either at Ungdomshuset or in any other venue)
We hope you leave feeling confident enough to join us for our next gig! In general we have several live sound engineers at our concerts. There will always be an experienced person, but we make sure to have room for folks to shadow, help with set-up/tear-down, or just try their hand at part of the set if they don't feel ready to commit to the whole show on their own.
