Band Bio’s:
Fans first heard The UnHeard over a decade ago.
A four piece power acoustic guitar, bass and drums covering side B songs and deep tracks from mostly unknown artists.
Style, feel and chemistry developed early on which led to the band exploring its own sound and original material.
A decade later the band released Rising Wind. Their debut album of original songs to much success.
Today the band has matured into a 3 piece progressive rock group.
A sound inspired by the ‘70’s rock era with a modern feel and a progressive twist.
The band is Charles Wilby on drums, Bob Fitzgerald on bass and vocals, Vaughan Evans on electric guitar and vocals.
The 3 piece continues to write and collaborate on new material.
The UnHeard will release new material in 2026.
A.K.A is a Fredericton band that was first on the scene from the late 80's until 2002. There were
a number of musicians who played with the band over the years, boasting 9 members at one
point (including 2 lead vocalists and 3 horn players) in the mid '90's.
The band became a mainstay at the River Room during the early years of the Harvest Jazz &
Blues Festival. They were essentially a rock band who wasn't afraid of jazz, country or blues
and they did a lot of original material along with eclectic covers. By the late 90's, with members
involved in other projects as well, the band never had a 'call it quits' moment, it just kinda
stopped playing, with a brief resurgence around 2000. In 2002 it was all over when one of the
pivotal members moved away.
Today, a.k.a. returns, as a quartet with local music veterans :
Ralph Atkinson - guitar, lead vocals
Pat Hawkes - bass, vocals
John Clayden - keyboards
Karl Gans - percussion
This was the core of the group at the bands peak when the emphasis was on original material.
Ralph Atkinson has been playing in bands since the late 60's and is also an award winning
songwriter. He started a.k.a. in the late 80's along with other local veterans, bassist Pat Hawkes,
keyboardist John Clayden, and sax player Brian Couglan, who all migrated from a band called
Hip Deep. The concept at the time was to have an easy-goin' band that played whatever they
liked, originals and covers, regardless of genre. Drummer Karl Gans joined a couple of years
later coming from a band called Safety In Numbers, replacing the original a.k.a drummer, Rick
Atkinson, in 1991.Other members over the years included singers Glen Ingersoll and the late
Conrad Yavis, Greg Washburn on sax, Rick Rangno on trumpet, Richard King and Danny Ross
on guitars and vocals, and Barry Hughes on drums.
For the first time in 25 years with this lineup, a.k.a. is back, they're still writing new music and
they're eager to play to a new audience as well as get some of their older fans out again.
