A Kidoons and WYRD Production, in association with Theatre Calgary and The 20K Collective. Written, Directed and Performed by Rick Miller.
BOOM X is a mind-blowing, one-man show, covering the music, politics, and culture of Generation X in an explosive and engaging multimedia performance. The show, created and performed by musician and entertainer Rick Miller, is the second part of a trilogy of solo multimedia performances, which collectively span 75 years of history, politics, culture, and technology on our planet.
Like a TedTalk on six Red Bulls, BOOM X picks up where BOOM left off, at Woodstock in August of 1969, and takes us all the way to 1995, when the internet began to dominate our lives. Over the course of 100 minutes, Miller plays over 100 colourful characters from the days of disco, the oil crisis, Watergate, the Cold War, video games, punk rock, the (second) British Invasion, and more. Entertainment Weekly called Miller, “one of the 100 most creative people alive today.” Hold on tight for a fast-moving whirlwind, kaleidoscope trip down a generational memory lane.
Content warning: Recommended for audiences 12 and up. Some flashing lights, loud noises and gunshot effects. This play touches on themes including sexism, racism, and homophobia. It includes mature language, and some historical and racialized epithets.
