- **Event Name**: Giants of American Grit - The Page 618 Walking Dragline Exhibit Opening
- **Event Start and End Date**: Thu, 01 Jan, 2026 at 10:00 am
- **Event Description**: Honoring 250 years of the workers and innovations that built our nation

As our nation marks the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, Miners Hall Museum is proud to open the year with a quarterly exhibit (January 1 - March 28, 2026) that honors the workers and innovations that helped shape America. Giants of American Grit pays tribute to the Page 618 Walking Dragline—an engineering marvel emblematic of the ingenuity of American industry and the determination of the immigrants and laborers who powered it.

Visitors to the exhibit will explore the early history of the Page Engineering Company, its connections to Crawford and Cherokee counties, and the remarkable story of the Wilkinson family. A wide range of artifacts—including original Page components, historic documents, and a dramatic comparison between the Page piston and a standard car piston—showcases the scale and significance of this extraordinary machine. Several volumes of archival binders provide rich information on the companies, the dragline, and the men who operated it.

Throughout the exhibit period, the museum will host special monthly programs, free and open to the public. Programs are typically held on Sunday afternoons at 2:00 p.m. We encourage you to follow us on Facebook and watch local media for announcements as a variety of engaging topics are planned.

When the relocation is complete, the Page 618 Walking Dragline will become the largest walking dragline preserved for public display in the United States, situated prominently along the historic Jefferson Highway in Franklin, Kansas. Currently, the only other walking dragline on public display in the U.S. is a smaller Monighan model located in Oregon.

If you have friends, family, or visitors who love the history of Southeast Kansas—or anyone curious about the Page—please invite them to explore this extraordinary exhibit or attend one of our special programs. It is a powerful tribute to the innovation, endurance, and immigrant grit that helped build our nation.
