In 1980s Alabama, a housewife befriends an elderly nursing home resident, who tells her stories about her friends and family, and the legendary Whistle Stop Cafe.
Why we're showing it: Fried Green Tomatoes was a hit upon release, with its story of family, friendship and food. It was nominated for two Academy Awards, and has stand-out performances from stars Jessica Tandy, Kathy Bates, Mary-Louise Parker and Mary Stuart Masterson.
