This re-telling of the myth of Orpheus is set during the time of Carnival, the great Brazilian festival heralding the beginning of Lent. Orfeu, betrothed to Mira, finds himself intrigued by a newcomer to Rio. She is Eurydice, and she is stalked by a sinister man, leading Orfeu into a descent into the deepest, darkest realms.
Why we're showing it: 3/5 is 35mm Day, celebrating the exhibition of film and showing movies how they were meant to be seen - on film! Black Orpheus is a winner of the Palme d'Or, the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, and the Golden Globe for Best Foreign Film, amongst other accolades. Throught its blending of classical Greek myth with the Brazilian sounds of samba, Black Orpheus is a feast for the eyes and ears, with great music, striking imagery and a timeless story of love and death.
The bar will be open for evening showtimes.
