Januar 2027 Eröffnung: 11. September 2026, 19 Uhr „Für mich verkörpert die Frau die Essenz des Lebens. Sie ist ein Symbol für Stärke, Widerstandskraft, Erinnerung und Großzügigkeit. Nachdem ich schon früh meinen Vater verloren hatte, erfuhr ich durch meine Mutter und meine Schwestern, wie viel Kraft und Durchhaltevermögen in Frauen steckt. Später wurde mir durch meine Beobachtungen von Kriegen und gesellschaftlichen Konflikten im Sudan, in Afrika und auf der ganzen Welt bewusst, wie Frauen selbst angesichts von Not oder als Opfer von Gewalt und Ungerechtigkeit ihre Stärke und Würde bewahren. In meinen Werken sind Frauen nicht nur Zeuginnen des Leidens; sie sind Schöpferinnen des Lebens, Trägerinnen der Erinnerung und Symbole der Hoffnung und des Friedens.“ Amel Bashier Die Bedeutung der Frau im Sozialen, in gesamten Ökonomien oder auch in politischen Auseinandersetzungen wie Kriegen wird weltweit – wenn überhaupt wahrgenommen – unterschätzt und wenig gewürdigt. Würde man die Leistung von Frauen anerkennen, gäbe es keine Gründe mehr für Ungleichbehandlung und Ungerechtigkeit. Man müsste dafür sorgen, dass Frauen gleich, fair und respektvoll behandelt werden und dieselben Chancen erhalten. Die Werke der sudanesischen Künstlerin Amel Bashier (* 1981) würdigen Frauen weltweit und geben ihnen den Raum und den Respekt, den sie verdienen. Frauen allein, zu dritt, in Gruppen, bei der Arbeit, zu Hause, strahlend, stark und visionär – zugleich aber auch einsam, zart und fragil. In leuchtenden, kontrastreichen Farben, symmetrisch und flächig, mit großen Händen und Füßen lassen Bashiers Malereien an nubische, assyrische wie auch indische Formenbewegungen denken und verleihen ihren gegenwärtigen Themen die historische Bedeutung, die ihnen zusteht. „Essence of Life“ ist Amel Bashiers erste institutionelle Einzelausstellung, für die sie zahlreiche neue Arbeiten geschaffen hat. --- EXHIBITION at ZOLLAMT MMK 12 September 2026 – 10 January 2027 Opening: 11 September 2026, 7 pm “For me, the woman represents the essence of life. She is a symbol of strength, resilience, memory, and generosity. After the early loss of my father, growing up I witnessed in my mother and my sisters the power and endurance of women. Later, through my observations of the wars and social struggles in Sudan, in other regions of the African continent, and in other parts of the world, I saw how women, even when faced with real hardship, even when they are victims of violence and injustice, continue to carry themselves with strength and dignity. In my work, women are not just witnesses to suffering; they are also life creators, memory keepers, and symbols of hope and peace.” Amel Bashier The significance of women in the social sphere, economically, and in political conflicts such as wars is often underestimated and receives little recognition worldwide—if it is acknowledged at all. Rectifying this problem would remove the underlying causes of inequality and injustice. This would entail ensuring that women are treated fairly, equitably, and with respect, allowing them to benefit from equality of opportunity. The works of Sudanese artist Amel Bashier (b. 1981) celebrate women globally, granting them the space and respect they merit. Her female subjects are depicted individually, in trios, and in larger groups, at work or at home, shown as radiant, strong, and visionary as they are lonely, tender, and fragile. Bashier’s works evoke Nubian, Assyrian as well as Indian figural forms with their big hands and feet, vibrant contrasting colors, symmetry, and a two-dimensional quality that lends her contemporary themes the historical significance they deserve. “Essence of Life” is Amel Bashier’s first institutional solo exhibition, for which she has created numerous new works.
