Silas House is an author, poet, and environmental and LGBTQ+ activist. He was a finalist for a 2024 Grammy Award, winner of the 2022 Duggins Prize, two-time winner of the Southern Book Prize, and longlisted for the Carnegie Medal of Excellence in Fiction. He was the Poet Laureate of Kentucky (2023-25), has been inducted into the Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame, and even has a day named in his honor in Lexington. His writing has appeared in The Washington Post, The Atlantic, Time, The New York Times, The Advocate, Garden & Gun, and more. He was a longtime music journalist and contributor to NPR’s All Things Considered. He teaches at Berea College and at the Naslund-Mann Graduate School of Creative Writing.
