- **Event Name**: Loretta Lynn: Mem'ries of a Coal Miner's Daughter
- **Event Start and End Date**: Tue, 06 Oct, 2026 at 06:00 pm (-04:00)
- **Event Description**: Before she was crowned the “Queen of Country Music,” Loretta Lynn blazed a difficult trail through poverty, heartbreak, and resilience. Born in Butcher Holler, Kentucky, she was the daughter of a coal miner—a humble beginning that shaped the soul of her music. At just 15, she married Oliver “Doolittle” Lynn and moved across the country to Washington, where her journey as a singer began in modest venues with a $17 guitar and bold determination.

Her first hit, “I’m a Honky Tonk Girl”, marked the beginning of a career defined by fearless storytelling. Loretta’s deeply personal songs gave voice to working-class women and their everyday struggles—with themes that tackled marriage, motherhood, ambition, and heartache with unapologetic candor.

Throughout her life, Loretta never lost touch with her Appalachian roots, often returning to the tiny cabin of her youth. Her groundbreaking hit, “Coal Miner’s Daughter” remains a defining anthem—not just of her life story, but of country music’s capacity to tell real stories that matter.

Loretta Lynn is portrayed by Lisa Woods, a versatile artist based in Lexington. An accomplished actor, director, designer, teacher, and writer, Lisa is a native of Woodford County who has worked professionally in New York City, Chicago, and throughout the region. She holds an MFA in acting from the Asolo Conservatory/Florida State University, a BA in theatre from the University of Kentucky, and is a graduate of The Second City Conservatory in Chicago. Lisa currently serves as an adjunct faculty member in theatre at the University of Kentucky.
