Exited to announce that in addition to the 150 and 80 mile mountain bike options, there will be a 300 mile “adventure gravel” option.What is the Swamp Donkey Dash?The SDD is a self supported ultra distance bike event in the white mountains of NH. There are no fees, no support or aid stations, self navigated via gps. It is up to you to get to the end under your own power. There is a 40 rider cap and official sign up will be May first. Some may choose to race it while others tour it as a mellower weekend out. Everyone is welcome to join!The routesThe two original routes are the 80 and 150 mile mountain bike. They are both challenging routes connecting three local mountain bike networks via double track (some rough, some tough) and gravel/ back roads. Expect hike a bike, light bushwacking and probably wet toes! There are plenty of resupply options on the 80 and the 150 has a stretch of 60+ miles. The 80 has around 12,000 feet of elevation gain and the 150 coming in at around 20,000 feet. Expect at-least 12-16+ hours on the 80 and 24-34 hours on the 150 depending on how long you sleep.The new “NorHam” route is a mixed terrain gravel adventure. It is approximately 300 mile loop going from Franconia up to Lake Francis and back. With 28,000 ish feet of elevation gain. This route is mostly gravel and friendly double track with next to no single track. Be aware that there are some rougher double track and class 6 sections. This route is mostly all rideable but be prepared to maybe push a bit. This would be a great training route for something like the Vermont Super 8. Expect at least one night out maybe two depending on your normal gravel riding speeds.The BikeThe 80 and 150 are true mountain bike routes. A hard tail or full suspension bike are good options. While they have been done on drop bar ridged bikes, you would be happy with some squish!The NorHam route is doable on a gravel bike. 45 mm or wider tires are recommended but use what your comfortable on. All bikes on either route should have capacity to carry sleeping/ food and water for a big day or multiple days.Timing and trackingThe 80 will be self tracked and timed via apps like ride with gps, strava or Trailforks. The 150 and 300 should still be self timed but will also be on trackleaders. Riders are recommended to carry a gps tracking unit (personal or rented) but not mandatory.The “Rules”Self supported standard basically means you can’t use outside assistance from anything that’s not available to everyone. You get yourself to the end under your own power following the route; you also get yourself back if you decide to call it quits. You may get food, water and supplies from any public stores, gas stations, trail magic stations ect. Also unplanned help from another rider is okay but you shouldn’t rely on others. Camping/ sleeping arrangements at hotels or campgrounds may be made beforehand. If you leave the route for any reason you should try to get back on route at the same location you left it.
