Eighty-one years after the end of the Holocaust, global antisemitism is at the highest reported levels since that period, with a 923% increase in reported antisemitic incidents in Wisconsin alone since 2015.  The world’s oldest hatred was neither started by the Nazi party nor did it end in 1945. The product of thousands of years of hateful tropes, antisemitism found fertile ground in America, even before the 1776 signing of the Declaration of Independence.  Join us as we explore the history and context of antisemitism in America, how it impacted America’s response to the Holocaust, and why knowledge helps us combat contemporary antisemitism.  

 

Keynote Speaker Professor Pamela Nadell holds the Patrick Clendenen Chair in Women's and Gender History and is Director of the Jewish Studies Program. A specialist in American Jewish history and women’s history, she teaches a variety of courses in Jewish civilization. She consults for museums including the National Museum of American Jewish History and the Milken Center for Advancing the American Dream. She lectures widely, frequently appears on podcasts, and has written for, among others, the Washington Post, The Conversation, and Hadassah Magazine. In 2017, she testified three times before Congress about antisemitism on college campuses. Her latest book is Antisemitism: An American Tradition (2025). 

Celebrating 5 years since the signing of Wisconsin Act 30 mandating education on the Holocaust and other genocides, the Nathan and Esther Pelz Holocaust Education Resource Center has led statewide efforts by bringing our resources to over 380 school districts, training over 1,500 teachers, and impacting over 260,000 students. Join us for this first in a series of upcoming public programs that explore the importance of Holocaust education in 2026 and the historic and contemporary relevance of antisemitism in our ongoing discourse.
