Course Overview
The Traumatic Wound Care Skills Day is an intensive, hands-on training program designed to provide students with practical skills and confidence in the assessment and management of traumatic injuries in austere, tactical, and prehospital environments. This course emphasizes evidence-based techniques for controlling life-threatening injuries, managing trauma patients, and utilizing commonly available medical equipment.

Through a combination of classroom instruction, demonstrations, and practical skill stations, participants will develop the knowledge and hands-on proficiency necessary to respond effectively to traumatic emergencies.

Equipment & Student Requirements
Students Should Bring:
Any personal equipment regularly used during range activities, field exercises, training events, or recreational tactical activities.
Personal medical kits for familiarization purposes.
Medical kit that can be worn on a drop leg, backpack, sling bag, belt mounted or on a plate carrier.
 
Note: Personal medical supplies will not be utilized during practical exercises. All training materials are included as part of the course.
*Disclaimer, you may get fake blood stains on your medical kit.

Course Objectives
Identify and manage life-threatening hemorrhage.
Recognize the signs and symptoms of shock and initiate appropriate treatment.
Properly utilize common trauma care equipment.
Assess and treat traumatic extremity injuries.
Manage penetrating neck and chest trauma.
Assess and treat abdominal and pelvic injuries.
Perform basic airway management techniques.
Recognize and manage traumatic head injuries.
Apply trauma care principles in realistic training scenarios.

Trauma Fundamentals & Hemorrhage Control (1 Hour)
Principles of traumatic injury assessment
Massive hemorrhage recognition and management
Tourniquet application
Wound packing techniques
Shock recognition and treatment
Medical equipment familiarization and practical application
 

Module 2:
Extremity Trauma Management (1 Hour)
Assessment of limb injuries
Fracture recognition and stabilization
Splinting techniques
Junctional wound considerations
Limb-threatening injuries and treatment priorities
 

Module 3:
Penetrating Neck & Chest Trauma (2 Hours)
Recognition of life-threatening thoracic injuries
