You can find !Join PPS for a trip to Foster to see two gems of 1960s/70s design built within several yearss (and a few miles) of each other. Our first stop is now a home and animal rescue center but was originally the Church of the Messiah (1966), designed by William Warner, working with a young Bill Kite as project design manager nearly ten years before he formed William Kite Architects (now KITE Architects). We will tour the outside of the distinctive vertical board and batten structure and parts of the interior with the current owners.Guests then drive five minutes down the road to the ILZRO House (1972), an experimental steel house that was designed for wheelchair accessibility and energy conservation in ways that were ahead of its time. The project was a partnership between Rhode Island School of Design and The International Lead and Zinc Research Organization (ILZRO) with Marc Harrison leading the team of faculty and students that completed it. Harrison’s daughter, Natasha, resides there now, and provides the tour. Following the tour, we will enjoy some light bites and drinks at the house.Kristen and Marc Peralta are the founders of Vintage Pet Rescue, a rescue and retirement home for senior dogs. They have been running the rescue out of 109 Danielson Pike for 8 years now and have anywhere from 25 - 35 senior dogs living in the home at any given time. Vintage Pet Rescue takes in approximately 200 senior dogs every year and finds most of them loving homes.Please note: the animal rescue center is an active rescue center. The dogs will not be on the grounds during the tour of the building’s exterior but will be inside of the house. Guests who wish to see the interior should be aware that this is a home for small elderly dogs. PPS does not provide transportation for this tour: guests will receive the address of the first site visit and will meet there.Tickets: $30 General / $25 PPS Members.All tickets are fully refundable up to seven days in advance of each program. After that, tickets are nonrefundable because we may not be able to sell the released tickets within a short timeframe.
