Ethical Considerations in Mental Health Documentation and Reporting

Learning Objectives
1. Restate the notes of confidentiality related to psychiatric treatment.
2. Define the concept of therapeutic boundaries.
3. Discuss risk factors that can predispose to a therapeutic boundary violation in treatment.
4. Explain the appropriate documentation needed for psychiatric treatment encounters.
5. Define the ethical dilemmas that can occur related to safety for the patient and the patient’s community.
