Don’t Miss the LIFE Mental Health Event, Saturday
December 6, from 9:30-11:30 in the UUCFM Sanctuary
This year has been like no other for LIFE. We did not have our usual cycle building to a Nehemiah Action. Instead, we are using this year to build a stronger organization by focusing on adding new congregations that share our Social Justice mission.
The Mental Health Team, co-chaired by Marge Gonzalez (UUCFM) and Lorna Washington (Mount Hermon Ministries) has continued to promote change in Lee County’s mental health system. We have also concerned ourselves with ways to
support our fellow congregants during these stressful times.
We now have planned an event to bring our LIFE community together to better understand the role we can play in effecting positive outcomes for the larger community. A billion dollars in disaster relief funds is making its way to Lee County, a large portion
of which is going for mental health reform. It will be wonderful for us to come together as loving brother and sister congregations to become informed so that we are more effective advocates for justice.
Andy Solis who, as a County Commissioner, participated in reforming Collier County’s system, will be part of the panel discussion. Rita Houston and Marge Gonzalez attended a county meeting on Phase One of the new mental health system. They will
report. We will also learn about the state of police crisis intervention training. You will come away from this event better informed about the changes that are coming, how we
can promote positive change, what resources are available, and how our congregations can offer support to mental health issues within our own congregation.
