The WindUp is a baseball-themed show of songs, storytelling, and silent film celebrating the humor and history of the game here in Florida. Created by members of the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn and inspired by the scrappy spirit of sandlot ball, the show brings a playful, hand-crafted charm to the stage. Performed by Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalists Jared Engel (banjo & bass), Aidan Scrimgeour (accordion & keys), and Chris Luquette (guitar & mandolin), the trio live-scores vintage visuals and spins tall tales from the diamond, bouncing effortlessly from jazz to blues to bluegrass. The centerpiece of the program is their original silent film “Day of the Catch — a Grapefruit league legend” — alongside classic baseball clips from early cinema, all accompanied with original musical scores performed live by the band. Part concert, part ballpark, part old-time movie house, The Windup plays like a sandlot variety hour for baseball fans of all ages. Making their only Southwest Florida appearance at the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery Annex, the Musicians' Baseball Club of Brooklyn’s Jared Engel and The WindUp will be coming to Fort Myers following a series of tour dates performing the U.S. & Colombian National Anthems and screening “Day of the Catch” at Pittsburgh Pirates Vs. Team Colombia, Atlanta Braves Vs. Team Colombia, and New York Mets Vs. Washington Nationals Spring Training games over the next two weeks. More about Jared ENGEL: Jared Engel is a professional musician and a 22-year mainstay of the New York City music scene. An accomplished multi-instrumentalist, he has appeared on Grammy-nominated recordings and is a familiar sight on subways, sidewalks, and bike paths hauling an arsenal of instruments that includes upright bass, bass guitar, tuba, 4-string plectrum banjo, and 5-string banjo. Perhaps best known for his decade-long tenure as bassist for both the trad-jazz and bluegrass sessions at Mona’s, a beloved East Village institution, Engel has recorded and performed with artists such as Béla Fleck, Steve Martin, Abigail Washburn, David Grisman, Tony Trischka, Kaïa Kater, Naomi & Her Handsome Devils, and Stéphane Wrembel. He is also a frequent collaborator with Tony Trischka, Sean Kiely, Baby Soda, Aurora Nealand, Mike Davis, and The High Society New Orleans Jazz Band. Engel has performed worldwide and at many of New York’s most storied venues, including The Village Vanguard, The Blue Note, Lincoln Center, Birdland, and Barbès. In 2025, he made his debut as a filmmaker with the silent short film “Day of the Catch” which recounts a true episode from 1915 baseball lore and features his original live score. More about us: The Bob Rauschenberg Gallery was founded as The Gallery of Fine Art in 1979 on the Lee County campus of Florida Southwestern State College/FSW (then Edison Community College). On June 4th 2004, the Gallery of Fine Art was renamed the Bob Rauschenberg Gallery to honor and commemorate our longtime association and friendship with the artist. Over more than three decades until his death, the Gallery worked closely with Rauschenberg to present world premiere exhibitions including multiple installations of the “¼ Mile or Two Furlong Piece”.
