Louis Armstrong might still be best known for hits like "What a Wonderful World" and "Hello, Dolly!," but in the mid-1950s, he was beloved around the world, hailed as an Ambassador of Goodwill. Famed CBS newscaster Edward R. Murrow and producer Fred Friendly sent a camera crew to follow Armstrong around the world in 1955 and 1956, capturing priceless footage in Paris, London, and Ghana, before Armstrong returned home to perform in New York City with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of this historic film, the Barrymore Film Center will be hosting a screening of Murrow and Friendly's documentary, Satchmo the Great, which has never been available on home video. This screening will be hosted by Grammy-winning author Ricky Riccardi of the Louis Armstrong House Museum, who will talk about the making of this unforgettable film.
