Guided by vocalist and teaching artist Alana DaCosta, with live percussion from Abasi Hanif, this immersive workshop as part of the Kwanzaa Festival at The African American Research Library and Cultural Center, draws inspiration from the principle of Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)—an invitation to name ourselves, claim our breath, and trust the wisdom that moves through the body.
Participants will explore grounding rituals, vocal activation, and learn phrases of movement to move from stress and stagnation toward spaciousness, intention, and embodied freedom. Together we will sing, shake, move, and make—closing with the creation of a liberatory affirmation to carry your intentions forward.
